In every filipino event like anniversary, birthday, wedding, reunion or fiesta, personally, it is inevitable to look for a certain dish, Lechon. It has been the star in the table in every celebration. This is a delicacy passed down from the days of spanish conquest.
"Naa'y Lechon?" and "Naa pa ang panit?" are the usual shameless questions that I ask. This has been my favorite ever since the first time I tasted it at a fiesta in a barangay years back. Today, me and my friends are talking about lechon so, I remembered that moment and I started to crave for it eventually.
Good thing that my friends told me about this restaurant where they've been to when they visited the town. They describe it as "homey" . So, my buddy and I went there and satisfied our gastronomic cravings.
The place is called the JK Boneless Lechon. From the outside, the restaurant is inviting and really calling for your feet to come inside. Inside the restaurant, I realized that my friends are right! It is "homey". It is just outside of a house. I remember a fiesta set-up where visitors can enjoy their food while relaxing on an outside table and chairs. The area is relaxing because it is surrounded by plants and the is air is quite refreshing. The simple decorations of the place gave life to its "homey" description.
We ordered the basic meal set, 1/4 boneless lechon, 4 cups of rice and 1 pitcher of iced tea. They also offered siomai sa Tisa - Tisa is a place in cebu known for its dainty special siomai and steamed rice - so, we also tried some. When the order was ready and placed in our table, the aroma of the lechon was irresistable and it looked juicy.
The first thing that I ate was the reddish-brown skin. As expected, it was crispy. The juicy meat absorbed all taste of the herbs and spices and it was delicious. The saltiness and sweetness was in moderate and the umami taste was perfect. The combination of the ingredients was good it didn't taste like other lechon where saltiness are overlapping other tastes.
They sell also the lechon per kilo. 1/4 kilo is P150
1/2 kilo is P300
3/4 kilo is P450
1 kilo is P600.
If you are a lone wolf craving for lechon, the value meal offer is perfect for you. For only P90, you can have 100g of boneless lechon, 1 cup rice and a glass of iced tea. They offer meals by set. We availed their P260 set and enjoyed 1/4 kilo boneless lechon, 4 cups rice and a pitcher. The other set is worth P450 and you can enjoy 1/2 kilo boneless lechon, 6 cups rice and a 1.5 soft drinks. They also offer shrimp in a bowl, grilled boneless banngus, itlog maalat, rice toppings, chorizo and siomai for a very affordable price. They are proud to include their "Boodle Fight" meal set for only P750. It is good offer for barkada who wants to enjoy a variety of specialties. If you want to order a whole lechon for any special occasions, you can choose from sizes: small- P2,600, medium- P3,100 and large- P3,600.
I recommend JK Boneless Lechon to all people who are craving for this special filipino delicacy. The food was great as mentioned, the staff are friendly and approachable and it is situated in the heart of the City. It is accessible and near from City Plaza and the Bus and Ferry terminal.
